Flood situation in Pakistan: Death toll reaches 356

Due to the monsoon rains and floods in Pakistan, more than three and a half hundred people have been killed so far.

 According to the statement released by the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday, a total of 356 people died while more than 400 people were injured across the country.

 The highest number of deaths across the country are 106 in Balochistan, 90 in Sindh, 76 in Punjab, 69 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 6 in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

 Monsoon rains, rescue operation continues in flooded areas

 Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a 4-member committee consisting of federal ministers to determine the damages caused by the recent rains and floods.

 In the meeting regarding recent rains and floods presided over by the Prime Minister, the damages caused by rains and floods were reviewed.

 According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister issued orders to increase the amount of aid in the flood-affected areas and directed the authorities to increase the aid to the victims and injured from 50 thousand to 2 lakh.

 Apart from this, it has been asked to do away with the category of rough houses and provide uniform assistance to all the affected houses.

 "The aid for partially affected houses should be increased from 25 thousand to 2.5 lakh, while the aid for completely affected houses should be increased from 50 thousand to 5 lakh."

 The Prime Minister has formed a committee of federal ministers to assess the damage in the areas affected by rains and floods, which will visit all the affected areas within the next 4 days.  A comprehensive plan will be formulated in the light of the committee's recommendations.

 The Prime Minister said that the federal government will fully support the provincial governments to deal with this natural calamity.

 Pakistan is the responsibility of all of us, we will help the affected people through mutual assistance.  Disaster management authorities ensure implementation of disaster risk management strategies.  Relevant ministries and institutions should also speed up efforts to obtain financial support from international donor agencies.

 The Prime Minister said that in this regard, the federal government will write a letter to provide the fund in the Supreme Court.

More than 6 thousand houses were completely destroyed in Balochistan

 Briefing on the flood situation in Balochistan on Thursday, Chief Secretary Balochistan said in a press conference that ten districts in Balochistan have been severely affected by rains while 14 districts have suffered partial damage.

 More than 6,000 houses have been completely destroyed in the province due to rains and floods, while 6,000 meters of roads and standing crops have been severely damaged in the province.

  According to the authorities, more than 17,000 people have been rescued in various accidents, while hundreds of people are still trapped in the floodplain for which relief operations are ongoing.
