The highlight of the championship held in Islamabad this time was the participation of a German citizen, Peter Roth, who came from Munich, Germany, as a judge.
Peter Orth is an electrical engineer by profession and currently lives a retired life. He says that he came to Pakistan for the first time and was happy to see that the German Shepherd is being bred at the local level in an excellent manner.
According to Peter Orth, the German Shepherd possesses many qualities, but its greatest quality is its courage.
In Pakistan, a dog used to cost 5 to 20 thousand rupees per month
President of Pakistan German Shepherd Club Imran Hussain says that German Shepherds are not only kept in homes with great interest but also help in anti-narcotics, security guards and search for missing persons during natural calamities such as earthquakes and floods.
According to Imran Hussain, the number of German Shepherd fans in Pakistan is in thousands and they are increasing.
The German Shepherd Club not only offers membership to aspiring owners, but is also launching a DNA facility from next month to verify the breed of dogs and help in tracing them in case of theft.
Kamal Akmal is also one such enthusiast, who has been breeding German Shepherds for the past 20 years.
He told Deutsche Welle that a dog costs between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 per month and if it gets sick, the cost may increase.
Kamal Akmal says that the biggest problem in keeping German Shepherds domestically is hot temperatures.
Dr. Nisar also owns a German Shepherd. He says that local breeding in Pakistan is not possible like in Germany, but efforts are made to maintain 80 to 90 percent German quality.
The German Shepherd helps in anti-narcotics and security patrols
Pakistan German Shepherd Club President Imran Hussain says that organizing events like the German Shepherd Championship not only provides opportunities for entertainment to people in the country, but also helps in highlighting the positive image of Pakistan abroad.
Visitors from abroad have first-hand knowledge of Pakistan and its people. Peter Orth also agrees with Imran Hussain, he says that before coming here, he had heard many things, which were not very positive.
But it was great to come to Pakistan and meet the people here. Peter said that he will go to Germany and tell people that Pakistani people are very friendly, compassionate and above all they love German Shepherds.
